Women's Open Team Shocks Team USA with 4-3 Win
Canada's Women's Open Softball team defeated the United States today 4-3 in a big upset on Sunday.
It marks the first ever time Canada has defeated Team USA in women's open competition.
Mandy Greenberg was stellar on the mound, pitching a complete game in stifling heat at Gezer. Greenberg struck out the side in the 7th to secure the win for Canada, who improved to 2-and-0.
Team Canada jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth innings, led on offence by Molly Tissenbaum who drove in two runs with a triple, and Greenberg helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The ladies rode the momentum from Sunday into Monday morning, with a impressive win 11-0 over Israel. Hayley Bennett and Taylor Mennie each had 3 RBI to pace the offensive attack, while Greenberg threw a 1-hit shutout to go along with 8 K's on the day.
