Canada's Masters Crush Venezuela 19-4


Game 5 for the Canadian Masters Men Softball team involved a match up between the Canadian Team and Team Venezuela at 9:00 am at Kibbutz Maor.

The game featured a one-two pitching punch for Canada of lefty John Marshall followed by righty Murray Margolis, countered by their Venezuelan counterparts.

Canada came out yet again with first inning runs to take the lead, putting up 5 early runs, folled by 11 runs in the 2nd inning and 3 in the 3rd inning to as they won 19-4 in a shortened game victory.

John Marshall pitched an abbreviated start, and was followed by Murray Margolis who finished the game going 2 and one third innings, with one hit, 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Murray got locked in soon after he came in the game and helped shut down the valiant Venezuelan rally, keeping the runners at bay and striking out the Venezuelan hitter with the bases loaded and runners threatening.

The Canadian Masters hitting lineup was led with hitting contributions from throughout the lineup including:

- Big slugger John Marshall who clubbed another long home run, as part of a 3 hit day with 3 rbi and 3 runs;

- Catcher David Goldstein who continued his hot hitting with a 3 for 3 day including a double, 3 runs and 2 rbi;

- Second baseman Mike Krestell who continues to scorch the ball with another 3 hits, as well as 3 runs batted in and a run scored and stolen base to top off the day;

- Third baseman David Katz who had a big day at the plate with 2 hits, and 2 runs and drove in 3 big runs, coupled with a nice bare hand play at 3b early in the game;

- Mark Bendahan who kept up his hot hitting, with a 2 for 2 day, including a big bases clearing double and rbi single, as part of his 4 rbi and 2 run morning;

- Centerfielder Robbie Cooper who opened the game with a walk and scored on Krestell’s rbi single, and later chipped in with another walk, run scored and rbi single and sliding catch in CF in the 3rd inning;

- Leftfielder Gavin Ziv who banged out another 2 hits including a big double to deep CF and scored 2 runs and drew a walk in a standout day;

- Rightfielder Colin Halpern who drove in a run with single and chipped in with 2 runs;

- Shortstop Steve Bleiwas who opened the game with a nice play at shortstop and then chipped in with two doubles and two runs to keep the lineup moving and plug the bases with runners.

The Canadian Masters move to Game 6 at Kibbutz Maor on Wednesday July 12, at 6:00 pm against Team USA for their anticipated rematch.
