Men's Open Beat USA and Israel at Ma'or

The Men's Open team went 2-for-2 on the ball diamond at Ma'or on Tuesday.

Canada opened the day with a 9-2 win over Team USA to sweep their round-robin two-game series. Steve Osterer, Dan Osterer and Randy Hoffman all went deep in the win, with Hoffman's 2-run shot in mercy walk-off fashion. Josh McKinlay gave up 2 hits over 5 innings for the win.

The night game was a rematch vs. Israel, who upset Canada 6-2 on Sunday. The host Israelis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Canada tied it in the 4th before moving ahead 4-2 on a 2-run blast by Paul Foucault Jr. in the 6th. The scrappy Israeli team tied it in the bottom of the 6th, but Canada's power proved to much. After a one-out double by Adam Sargon, Steve Osterer and Foucault Jr. went back-to-back in the top of the 7th to provide the margin of victory.

A special shout out to CF Steve Osterer, who provided the best defensive play of the tournament so far. With the score tied at 2 and a runner on second for Israel with one out, the batter hit a towering drive to centre ... Steve back-pedalled and caught the ball while falling into the temporary nylon fence. He then recoiled and promptly threw a strike to home plate on one bounce to get the runner tagging from second base. Hoffman called it the TSN turning point in the game ... everyone there called it the most amazing play they've ever seen.

With the wins, Canada's Men's Open team (6-1) has all but secured a place in the 1-2 semifinal game on Friday.

They next play Mexico Wednesday at Gezer at 5pm.
