Men's Masters Defeat Team USA to Finish Undefeated in Round-Robin


Game 6 for the Canadian Masters Men Softball team involved a match up between the Canadian Team and Team USA on July 12, 2017 at 6:00pm at Kibbutz Maor.

The game featured a complete game pitching performance by Murray Margolis of Canada who was countered by his USA counterpart Fred Cohen who also pitched a complete game.

Canada came out quickly with a 5 run 1st inning, and scored 3 more in the 2nd inning and another 5 runs in the 5th inning to ensure a 13-5 score in a shortened game victory, leaving the Canadian Masters Team with a first ever 6-0 record in the Israel round robin.

Murray Margolis pitched the Masters first complete game with a 5 hit and 5 walk performance, giving up only 3 earned runs in the match, to lead the team to victory against their USA rivals.

The Canadian Masters team was led with hitting contributions from throughout the lineup including:

- Shortstop Steve Goldsmith led with 3 runs and 2 hits, including a first inning double to continue the team streak of scoring a run in the 1st inning in 6 straight games;

- Big slugger John Marshall who clubbed another long home run, as part of a 2 hit, 4 rbi performance, coupled with 2 more runs;

- Leftfielder Gavin Ziv who clubbed a long solo home run to left field from the lead off spot to push the lead;

- Rightfielder David Goldstein who continued his fiery hitting with another 2 hits, coupled with one rbi, one run and a walk from the three hole;

- First baseman Jeff Michaels who kept raking, hitting a long home run to right field and knocking in 4 runs and scoring 3 as part of a 2 hit day;

- Third baseman David Katz who knocked in a run with an rbi single up the middle;

- Catcher Colin Halpern who kept his bat screaming with a single and run scored;

- Second baseman Mike Krestell who singled and scored a run and kept his great defense and foot work at second base;

- Second baseman Steve Bleiwas who drove in a run with an rbi double and was later injured with a dislocated shoulder on an acrobatic diving play at home plate trying to score and evade a tag at the plate;

The Canadian Masters move to Game 1 of the playoff round at Kibbutz Maor on Thursday July 13, at 4:30 pm against Team USA for their anticipated rematch.
